  • House Update

Good news!!!  If things go as planned we are scheduled to close on our house on August 10th ad 3:00 pm!!!  We are SOOOO excited!  Here is how things look as of today:

    House 084

We can't wait to move.  We have been out pricing washers/dryers, garage door openers, blinds, etc.  We are supposed to move exactly one week before school starts, so that gives us a little time to get things in order before we go back to school.

In other news, I registered for my first Master's classes today!  I can't wait to get started.  I have class two nights a week from 4:30-7:15.  It's gonna be stretching things, but I can't wait to get started...and to get finished with that!

  • Summer Break

Well, it's summer...this means no "work" for teachers!!!  Chrissy and I are taking this summer to relax and enjoy...summer!  We traveled for 2 weeks to 2 weddings.  One was in VA, Chrissy was a bridesmaid, the other in CO, I was a groomsman.  It was a lot of fun, and we enjoyed spending time with family and friends in both places.

In case you had not heard, we got our money back from the house that we tried to buy.  That whole saga is finally ended, and we actually got our money back without suing or anything like that which we did not expect!

We are still in the process of building our house.  Here is where it was about 2 weeks ago.

Now we have shingles, drywall (unfinished), electrical outlets, duct work, tubs and shower, and the lathe for the stucco on the front.

We are excited and can't wait for things to move ahead and get done!  We have met one of our neighbors and spoken with her a few times.  She is a nice older lady without family around Jacksonville.

We went downtown Jacksonville to see fireworks shot from the river.  We took our nephew Jadon, and Chrissy's dad.  Fun times...but nothing is like Chicago on the 3rd!

  • Life Update!

Well, I think this has probably been the longest gap in my xanga posting lifetime!  I did want to update for those who are interested about what is going on in our lives these days.

    #1.  Our House.

Well, things have NOT turned out well for us in the house buying arena.  We had a contract on a house for 4 months that never was fulfilled by the seller.  He is now holding $7,000 of ours that we gave as a binder for the house.  Things have not been pretty, and we are praying that we can get our money back sooner, rather than later or never!  We have contacted a LOT of important people like the State's Attorney, Better Business Bureau, the police, and the list goes on and on.  So far, none of them have taken any huge interest in helping us get our money back.   Our next step is to possibly pursue legal proceedings like a lawsuit or something like that if we must.  Needless to say...we have learned a lot, and we will NEVER lose money like that again.

    #2.  Our House.

Yep, there's a whole different house in the works, even through the craziness of losing this money, etc.  We have decided to build a house!!!  Actually, we are paying a contractor to build us a house if you wanted to take that statement literally.  We are building here in Jacksonville, and it a a 3 Bed, 2 Bath single story house with a 2 car attached garage.  It is 1,863 square feet, and uh....I dunno, it's cool!  We're really excited about it.  Here's a picture of it, sorta.

    Collins House

It will actually have a stucco front and no palm trees, but you get the general idea.   The shutters and front door will be red, and the roof will be a lighter brown color.

    #3.  School.

Our school year is quickly ending.  We are done on June 9th!  We have had an awesome year and are looking forward to next year with anticipation, and well, a few questions.  I am trying to get a job teaching "in the classroom."  Meaning, I want to teach a specific grade, not general Music.  My choice would be 3rd grade, but we'll see.  Chrissy will hopefully be able to stay at the school where she is now if things work out as it looks like they will.

    #4.  School.

Haha...yeah, again, school in a whole different way.  I am planning on going back to school in the fall!  I am planning on going to the University of North Florida to get a Master's in Educational Leadership.  This will be a 2 year program that will give me the credentials to move into administration (like assistant principal or principal).  I am getting really excited to go back (as sick as that may sound to some of you).  I have not yet been accepted into the program, but I'm working on getting all of my paperwork turned in, and hoping for the best.

On that note...it's time to go enjoy my Saturday!  Plans for today...none!

  • A few random thoughts...

Well, another year has come and gone...lots has changed for us.  This year we both graduated college, got married, found jobs (in our career field!), found a church, made some good friends, and the list goes on.  I look back at the past year and I am amazed at the amount of change that has taken place in both of our lives.  The awesome thing is, I have not seen negative changes.  Things have been so awesome.  There is no way I can explain it besides God giving us what He wants us to have in His time and in His way.  We were talking yesterday around the table about what would you be if...(you could have any super power, any skill, any career, etc.)  These questions really got me thinking.  God made us just right!  If each of us could choose a special skill to have imagine how much different we would be.  For example, if I chose to be omnipresent it would be great, except I could not also choose to be omnipotent which means I would run out of energy and die!  If I chose to be able to teleport any time to any place, imagine the people I would leave behind since not all of my family/friends could have that power too.  It sounds ridiculous, but it just really made me amazed at how smart God was to make us the way He did!  It's like He knows best for us...imagine that.  That is what this year has proven for us.  God doing things His way, in His time, and us being amazed by it.  I hope and pray that the next year we will continue to see God move in our lives in the good things and in the hard things.  Keeping Him the focus of our everyday walk has made a huge impact.  I pray for His grace to allow us to continue to seek Him and be strengthened by Him to face the next day.

  • Our House

That's right...we bought a house!  Well, it's not final, it'll be about 2 months before we can move in and things are subject to inspections and our approval of the house, but...we've signed the contract and put money down to claim it.  So, here it is:

Before you think we are millionaires, this house was WAY out of our price range...until it went into foreclosure.  We bought it for over $100,000 less than what it is selling for new now in the same subdivision.

A few specs: 3 bed, 2 1/2 bathroom, balcony, formal dining room, living room (piano room!), gathering room, fireplace, 2,292 square feet plus garage.

We should be moving in the end of January if things go as planned!  We are SOOOO excited.
